The museum opened its doors in 2012 and provides information depicting the evolution of Afro-American historical heritage and culture through reading materials, pamphlets, maps, books and other materials of interest. The museum houses displays of artifacts, crafts, and African-American art featuring artists and writers in the county. The

The museum also has a large collection of photographs of family members and places that have special meaning and significance to our community.
The African American Heritage Museum of Rutherford County, LLC, is dedicated to preserving the history of blacks in Rutherford County, Polk County and neighboring Buncombe, Burke, Cleveland, and McDowell counties in North Carolina as well as Cherokee and Spartanburg counties in upstate South Carolina.
